Gavin Williamson, the South Staffordshire MP, made the plea on Twitter as Government guidance advises people to stay at home where possible.

He used hashtag "#StayHomeSaveLives", as he tweeted: "You should only send your child to school on Monday if you have to, because your work is critical to our COVID-19 response.

"If you are able to keep your child at home, you should."

He also shared a placard of Government guidance which says "Stay at home, protect the NHS, save lives".

Schools will close to the majority of pupils from Monday [23] in a move by the Government to try and prevent the spread of Covid-19.

However, schools will remain out for children who's parents are considered key workers by the Government.
