School reopens after suspected hazardous substance leaks from fridge

A school which was closed after a suspected hazardous substance leaked from a fridge has reopened to pupils today.

Four teachers and a pupil had to be assessed by ambulance crews after the alert was raised at St Nicholas’ CE First School in Codsall yesterday morning.

The school was closed for the rest of the day following the incident.

Emergency services were called to reports of a suspected hazardous substance being found at the school, in Belvide Gardens, at around 11am.

Staffordshire Fire Service said the substance was thought to be ammonia but further tests were being carried out.
