Anger as loo roll removed from primary school toilets

A school has come under fire after its headteacher decided to remove toilet paper from the pupils’ loos.

It is believed Oldswinford Primary School acting headteacher, Jo Seker, told pupils they would have to ask for toilet roll if they wanted to use the bathroom – then return it to teachers afterwards.

But Mrs Seker has defended her decision – and said a number of incidents with pupils in the Field Lane school’s bathrooms had prompted the ban.

She said: “In recent weeks we have had a number of isolated incidents in school of disappointing behaviour in the bathrooms which have caused flooding, damage and temporary closure of facilities.

“To avoid any further incidents we have introduced a temporary system this week until lockable dispensers are installed over the Easter break.

“We are not limiting the amount of toilet roll children can use – the temporary system is allowing us to monitor behaviour and avoid any further incidents.

“We have been speaking to children to remind them about the importance of good behaviour in school, something we are very proud of at Oldswinford.”

Councillor Paul Brothwood, leader of the Dudley UKIP Group, said the ‘world had gone mad’.

He added: “It is ridiculous. I think the headteacher needs a dose of reality – it is unfair for the vast majority of pupils.

"It is the minority of pupils affecting 100 per cent of the pupils. It’s unjust. We don’t want pupils holding themselves and getting into difficulty.

“We don’t want medical problems because of children holding themselves and the embarrassment of asking teachers for toilet roll.

“I am surprised the governors are letting this happen. I am concerned about schools in the borough – it is just terrible.”
