University courses offered at Sandwell College

Degree-level courses will be offered in a range of subjects at the £70 million Advanced and Higher Education Centre in a partnership between Sandwell College and CU Coventry - a separate organisation to Coventry University but part of the Coventry University Group.

The raft of courses will range from science-based subjects to engineering and law and are targeted for people keen to study higher education but don't want the traditional university experience.

Sandwell College principal Graham Pennington said: "We are delighted to be launching this pioneering partnership with Coventry University to offer unique and affordable degree programmes."

The college hopes to attract students in the local area planning to go onto higher education by the pull of not having to pay for living costs and travelling long distances by going to universities further afield.

The degree qualifications will be offered by Coventry University and will include subjects such as biological and chemical sciences, combined engineering, digital and technology solutions, law and practice and public health.

Mr Pennington said: “The Sandwell College and CU Coventry partnering will provide a quality university experience and unique learning style to students, as well as an ethos that understands the needs of learners in the local area.

“We will be working closely with CU Coventry to provide career-focused higher education and give local people the best chance of success at our state-of-the-art facilities.”

John Dishman, pro-vice-chancellor and CEO of CU Coventry, said: “This is an exciting new development for CU Coventry and the first we have entered into. I think the partnership will greatly enhance the opportunities for people in the region to take part in university level courses.

“We are delighted that Sandwell College have chosen to work with us and we look forward to pooling our energies to deliver a high quality educational experience to current and future learners.”
