Norton Canes primary school gets software boost
A school in Norton Canes has been given a helping hand funding a state-of-the-art learning facility.
Taylor Wimpey Midlands donated £500 to Norton Canes Primary Academy to help purchase software for tablets that can be used during lessons.
The school's headteacher Karen Amos said: "We have always been keen to invest in cutting edge technology to help improve and develop the learning of our pupils, so being able to use the LearnPads as part of our teaching has made a big difference.
"This new facility will improve the education of all of our pupils, as the new software allows us to have a system tailored to support their learning.
"We find that children's understanding and retention of new learning improves with a greater variety of contexts to learn in.
"LearnPads provide them with a new context, and one they are excited about using."
Ms Amos said that the devices had already been used to help improve maths and English skills at the school, and that older pupils have used them to create and edit animation that would eventually be shared online.
The school, which has more than 250 pupils, currently has eight LearnPads, which they hope to expand in the future.
"This is ushering in a new era for the school by allowing our pupils to learn via the web," Ms Amos added.
"With such a vast, and rapidly expanding, range of educational apps available to us, we now possess a tool that will keep us up to date with cutting edge learning platforms for the foreseeable future.
"We're bowled over by Taylor Wimpey's donation.
"It's made a huge impact to our teaching. We want our school to be utilising what's at the forefront of technology, so we hope to invest in more LearnPads in the future."
Anne Wallace, sales and marketing director for Taylor Wimpey Midlands, says: "We feel it's extremely important to support the communities in which we build our new homes.
"And what better cause than to invest in education and help improve the facilities of local schools?
"We're really pleased that Norton Canes Primary Academy has benefited from our donation and we're delighted that the pupils are progressing in their learning with the help of new LearnPads."
