Assurances given on Coseley school places
A Coseley councillor has said he remains confident there will be enough school places available when a new 900-home scheme is built - despite current fears over the future of Coseley School.
Plans to build 925 homes on land off the Birmingham New Road will leave a shortfall of around 192 school places, according to council bosses.
But Councillor Melvyn Mottram has said if the school is 'mothballed' it will reopen to cater to an influx of any new pupils moving to the new houses.
Dudley Council has this week signed a financial agreement with developer Skelton Midlands for the site of the old Bean car factory.
Councillor Mottram said he will continue to fight for the future of the school, which is currently under consultation.
He said: "I can understand the parents and do sympathise with them, and don't want the school to be closed.
"But I think the council have taken the new houses into account.
"Depending on the consultation that's why they've said the school will be mothballed rather than closed down."
Ward councillor Clem Baugh said: "As it stands nothing has been decided - at this moment the future of the school is still in consultation.
"We won't know what's happening until early April when the consultation has finished. There's no fait accompli."
