Calling all mini Monet's: Dream up a design for Express & Star Design an Ad competition
Calling all primary schools! The Express & Star has launched its annual Design an Ad competition and today we are calling on you to take part in this year's event.
Up to 60 schools are set to take part and show off their budding designing skills.
Youngsters will get the chance to offer a fresh perspective on the advertising designs of local companies.
Each school will be paired with a different company or authority and be tasked with producing an advertisement. Pupils will complete the work as a classroom project or homework assignment.
The winning school will be selected by Express & Star readers and will be awarded with a cash prize of £500, while all participating schools will receive £50 – so everyone's a winner.
A supplement full of all the winning designs will be published on April 28 and all winning designers and their sponsors will be invited to a presentation ceremony at the Express & Star.
This year marks the 15th year of the competition and some of the companies that have taken part previously include the Grand Theatre, Alton Towers, JLR, Carillion, Wing Yip, Jaffray Care, West Midlands Fire Service and Homeserve.
Diane Davies, deputy editor of the Express & Star, said: "This will be the fourth year I have been involved and it is one of the highlights of the calendar. We are always overwhelmed by the quality of the contributions that we have and it is always a tough job to pick a winner. I hope we got lots of entries this year. I would also like to thank all of the organisations that support the competition. I can't wait to see what you have got to offer this year."
To take part, headteachers and teachers can register using coupons printed in the Express & Star, or by email.
Coupons can be sent to Jo Watton, business development department, Express & Star Queen Street, Wolverhampton, WV1 1ES, or schools can register by email to j.watton@expressandstar.co.uk

Last year more than 1,000 youngsters from the Black Country and Staffordshire designed eye-catching advertisements for businesses throughout the region.
Jamie Welch, then five, from Tettenhall College Preparatory School, was crowned winner after being tasked with creating an advert for Alton Towers.
His inspiration was the Octonauts Rollercoaster Adventure, a ride at the CBeebies Land at the theme park, based on characters Kwazii, Barnacles and Peso.
