Parents and children, armed with banners, gathered outside the Priory Road council building yesterday evening before the council's 6pm cabinet meeting.
The school's future was discussed behind closed doors – with the public excluded.
Parents were furious when the news of the potential closure of the school was broken to them by text message on January 8, shortly after students were told in an afternoon assembly.
Around 1,500 people have signed a petition against the possible closure.
Councillors are yet to make a decision on whether to consult parents on the future of the school.
