Elston Hall Primary School in Fordhouses and St Bartholomew's CE Primary School in Penn have linked up to create a new Teaching School Alliance.

The move forms part of Government plans to give schools a more central role in raising standards by developing and growing a network of 'teaching schools'.

The two outstanding-rated schools were granted teaching school status by the Department for Education after showing evidence of previously successful partnerships and a proven record of school improvement.

Both schools hold a shared vision to create opportunities for staff to develop their own professional teaching skills.

St Bartholomew's headteacher Katy Kent said: "In delivering high quality training and support to other schools, the alliance will have a part in safeguarding excellent teaching practices and enriching the learning and opportunities for children.

"We are delighted with the accreditation and have thanked staff for their hard work."
