Sport and psychology students were the first to graduate on Thursday morning, while public health and social care presentations followed in the afternoon.

A further 15 ceremonies will take place over the next eight days.

In addition to the myriad scrolls for undergraduates and postgraduates, honorary awards are being presented to several notable individuals.

They include jazz singer and Radio 2 presenter Clare Teal, former government minister Clare Short and double Paralympic gold winning archer Danielle Brown MBE, who received her honorary fellowship on Thursday.

Each awards session begins with a procession of honorary graduates, senior university staff, governors and guests through Wolverhampton and is followed by a drinks reception in the university's main library.

University vice-chancellor Professor Geoff Layer said: "It is a privilege to share this important event with our graduates and to celebrate their achievements.

"I wish all our graduates a prosperous and successful future. They are the best ambassadors for what this University stands for."
