Hundreds of people aged between 18 and 24 descended on Walsall College to learn about jobs and apprenticeship vacancies.

A wide range of businesses attended the event earlier this month including Premier Inn, West Midlands Fire Service, Eurosource, Tulip and Centro attended.

Also showcasing their opportunities were Walsall Council, the Army, Princes Trust, Nova Training and Midlands Apprenticeships.

Hilary Clews, employer engagement manager at Jobcentre Plus, said: "Just over 300 young people attended between the ages of 18-24 and there was a range of employers there offering jobs and apprenticeships in a huge variety of sectors.

"From the armed forces to firefighters through to butchery, childcare, office administration and hospitality, there was something for everyone.

"Feedback from employers and customers has been excellent with many positive steps taken towards employment. It is important we run these events as it focuses the young person on all the help support and opportunities that are available.

"Getting everyone together in one place makes it easier for them to make that initial approach and ask questions."

Assistant principal for commercial development at the college, James Norris, added: "It was a really well organised event and we are delighted that so many employers were able to attend and showcase their employment opportunities.

"It also provided us with a chance to tell people about the incredibly successful Job Shop which has been really important in adding value to the local economy as well as giving people aspirations to find exciting new careers."
