Fresh images revealed of new college in Walsall
[gallery] Fresh images have emerged of how a second multi-million pound University Technical College will look when it opens next year.
The £8m school, specialising in construction, will open in Walsall in September 2014 and will share the site of the £9.5m Black Country UTC, which specialises in engineering.
A new entrance plaza will be shared by both UTCs and together they will cater for a total of 1,200 students and 90 staff.
The new school at the site in Bloxwich will have 3D printers, material testing facilities and one of the ICT rooms will be a 'visualisation lab' with touch-screen tables.
It will also have foundations laid to create 'eco-houses', which will allow students to construct their own buildings.
A central area will connect the new entrance with a construction workshop and courtyards which could be used for performances, events and a science garden.
The college will cater for 14 to 19-year- olds who want to work in the building industry. Students will be able to study for their GCSEs and A Levels alongside construction qualifications.
It comes as a 'Meet the Principal' event is being held at the site in Vernon Way, Bloxwich, where people can ask questions and tour the site. Tom Macdonald, newly-appointed principal for the West Midlands Construction UTC, said: "We've had many year nine and 11 students and their parents visiting to find out more about the unique offering of the West Midlands Construction UTC, and to learn about how the new institution is designed to suit their needs. Building work is due to start soon.
The 'Meet the Principal' event is running until October 4.
