Stafford private school in shock closure
A troubled independent school has gone into administration and will close on Friday, it can be revealed today.
All 115 pupils at Brooklands School in Stafford must find alternative places and 40 staff are facing redundancy.
Governors have blamed falling pupil numbers on the sudden closure. Parents were told of the closure at a meeting yesterday. School governors said they had contacted other private schools and Staffordshire County Council to find alternative places for its pupils.
Chairman of governors Chris Lewis said: "Demand for independent education locally has been adversely affected by the economic recession."
Stafford MP Jeremy Lefroy said: "I am deeply disappointed to hear that Brooklands will be closing on Friday."
The school ran into financial difficulties in 2009. The cost for each pupil to attend the Eccleshall Road school ranges from £4,830 to £9,750 per annum.
