George Medal heroine Lisa Potts receives degree
George Medal heroine Lisa Potts took another step in her remarkable life when she graduated from the University of Wolverhampton with a degree in nursing.
The 38-year-old mother of two said afterwards: "This was one of those moments in life when you feel really proud of yourself, like when I got the medal."
Lisa, whose graduation ceremony at the city's Grand Theatre was watched by her delighted family, will now return to the university for a further year to become a qualified health visitor.
She explained: "This will be another challenge but I am always up for one of those."
Lisa became a household name in 1996 when she suffered terrible injuries while shielding pupils from machete-wielding attacker Horrett Campbell at St Luke's School, Blakenhall where she was a nursery nurse.
This outstanding display of courage won her the country's highest civilian bravery award.
