Stourbridge pupils finally enjoy 'May Day'
The rain may have delayed them once, but last week the sun finally came out, allowing pupils at Elmfield Steiner School in Stourbridge to hold their annual May Day celebrations.
The rain may have delayed them once, but last week the sun finally came out, allowing pupils at Elmfield Steiner School in Stourbridge to hold their annual May Day celebrations.
The pupils, aged 7-12, were continuing a tradition that has taken place on the front lawn at Elmfield for more than 40 years.
Classes 1-5 performed a series of dances round the Maypole, including the Double Twist and the Standard Plait.
Accompanying them on their recorders, violins and accordions were Class 6 pupils playing traditional folk tunes such as the Winster Processional.
Caroline Price, their music teacher, was clearly relieved the rain had relented.
She said: "It's such a wonderful opportunity for the children to stay in touch with the traditional roots of this country. I'm just glad we were able to go ahead."
