Students from The Earls High School in Halesowen have been collecting present bags in their 'Give a Gift Bag' appeal for the Children's Ward at Russells Hall Hospital in readiness for distribution at Christmas.

Organised by Heads of Hingley House, Mrs Michele Dimmock and Mrs Sarah Lennon, each Hingley form in Years 7-11 was challenged with filling two bags with presents.

The school nurse, Mrs Jackie Fox, accepted them on behalf of the hospital and will deliver them later in the week.

Mrs Lennon said: "The students were fully involved with the initiative from start to finish and have been really imaginative with the present bags. We were delighted with the response and look forward to welcoming one of the hospital staff to talk to the students in January at one of our House assemblies."

Mrs Dimmock said: "The students thought it was a really good cause and got behind the idea straight away. The plight of those children still on the ward and away from their families at Christmas time really proved thought-provoking and the response exceeded all expectations as they collected over 70 gift bags in all. Well done to all those in Hingley House."
