Winterfold House School in Chaddesley Corbett was honoured with a recent visit from HRH The Earl of Wessex.

Prince Edward landed by helicopter on the school playing fields and was greeted by hundreds of excited, flag-waving pupils.

The Earl toured the school to see the work which has been carried out over the last five years and chatted with children, staff and visitors.

He also spoke to teachers about the school's fundraising for Ncemaneni Primary School in South Africa, a school for orphans which Winterfold pupils visit every two years.

To date, Winterfold had raised £35,000 for Ncemaneni and enabled new classrooms to be built.

The Earl then heard two pieces performed by Winterfold's Choir and Orchestra before officially opening the school's new Performing Arts Centre during the visit earlier this month.

The building has been funded by donations from parents and local business and cost £500,000.

It is the latest development at the school, after a £1m classroom block was completed last year.

Headmaster Bill Ibbetson-Price said: "It was a huge privilege to show His Royal Highness a little of what we do and to have him open the Performing Arts Centre.

"It was a great day in the school's history."
