Building work on a new £27 million academy school in Darlaston is due to start next week, it was announced today.

The existing Grace Academy, in Herberts Park Road, will be completely rebuilt, creating extra classrooms and new sports facilities.

Council officers today said preparatory work was under way and building work would start on Monday.

The new building will see almost half of the neighbouring George Rose Park swallowed up. Kier Moss has been selected to carry out the building work. Councillor Paul Bott, Independent representative for Darlaston South, said: "I'm glad to see work starting.

"It's a positive thing that gives kids the opportunity to learn in a top-class environment."
