Pupils and staff at a Staffordshire primary are celebrating being judged top class after receiving a glowing Ofsted report.

Government inspectors have given St Michael's C.E. First School in Penkridge a 'good' rating, praising it for making considerable progress since its last inspection with some aspects of its work now outstanding.

Just over three years ago the school was barely satisfactory but staff and governors have worked hard to turn the assessment around.

Inspector Mary Davis said in her report that the significant improvement was the result of the "unstinting and highly effective" work of the headteacher, supported by a strong leadership team.
