Councillors in Hednesford have raised fears about the future of a local school after it took a step closer to becoming a new £10 million academy.

Staffordshire County Council has been consulting over proposals to turn Blake Valley Technology College into an academy.

A six-week consultation period has ended and the council's cabinet has now voted to approve the plans. However, local councillors have been speaking to the Express & Star about their fears for the school.

Hednesford Green Heath councillor Bob Todd said: "What would happen if the money ran out?"

Councillor Todd added he thought a variation in pay in the private and public sector could also cause unrest between teachers.
