Joy as Tipton nursery is rated as 'outstanding'

A Midland day nursery has received an "outstanding" Ofsted report, just months after moving to a new home.

Not-for-profit organisation Tipton Toddlers moved into its new building in Groveland Road in June, after leaving its former home of 10 years, Sacred Heart Church Hall.

Inspectors, who visited the nursery in November, said youngsters are given "an excellent range of experiences, supporting their learning highly effectively, ensuring they make excellent progress towards the early learning goals".

The nursery, which also offers care for children up to the age of 12 before and after school, had a temporary home at the former Locarno school, before moving into its new premises. It has around 80 children on the roll. Between 45 and 50 youngsters are under school age and the remainder are older children, cared for outside school hours.

The number at the centre each day depends on the requirements of parents, with different age groups using different parts of the building.

The report said that "overall the quality of the provision is outstanding" and also praised the commitment of staff.

It read: "The setting is wholly inclusive and each child is valued and respected.

"Staff are well qualified and totally committed to ensuring that the unique needs of each child are clearly identified and met." Vicky Powell, office manager at Tipton Toddlers, said: "We are over the moon to receive the report which maintained our previous 'outstanding' status.

"In nurseries you don't get any advance warning that Ofsted are coming. Inspectors just turn up on your doorstep.

"We want to thank everyone involved. We couldn't have done it without the support of the staff, the parents and the community. This result proves their commitment to what we do."

The nursery, which opens Monday to Friday from 7.30am to 6pm, is now hoping to develop its outside space after being given a £6,000 grant from the nearby Tipton Asda store.
