A £1.5 million scheme of refurbishment works has been unveiled at a Bewdley school – five weeks before children are due to start the autumn term.

Pupils at Bewdley Primary School will return to a completely revamped building on the site of the former Wribbenhall Middle School, in Stourport Road.

The new school features a children's centre, library and a special colour-coding system to give each area of the school its own identity.

Education bosses say they are delighted the project has been completed on time and on budget and staff are looking forward to unveiling the new-look school to pupils on September 7.

Bewdley Primary's headteacher, Paul Roper, said: "I am really pleased with the quality of the works.

"It is a testament to the co-operation of all who have been involved with the project that we have such great facilities delivered on time, on budget and finished to a high standard."

Children are moving from their current school in Shaw Hedge Road to the former Wribbenhall Middle as part of Worcestershire County Council's re-organisation of Wyre Forest education.

The reshuffle resulted in the closure of all first, middle and high schools and the creation of new a two-tier education system of primary and secondary schools.

Worcestershire County Council's property services department has been involved in the £1.5 million project to refurbish and extend the old middle school.

Extensions are to provide a children's centre and library, and to enlarge three of existing classrooms.

Numerous internal alterations have also been made and movement-sensitive lighting has also been installed.

Outside, two multi-use sports courts, climbing equipment and a conservation area featuring a pond have all been installed.
