A video circulating on social media shows violence erupting in Norfolk Place, off Bloxwich Road, Walsall, in broad daylight on Monday (March 17).

The victim was taken to hospital but died just before midnight.

West Midlands Police has arrested a 52-year-old on suspicion of murder.

A Section 60 order was put in place across Walsall on Monday night and was extended until Wednesday morning due to a fear of potential violent disorder.

The police powers allow officers to stop and search people without the need to have reasonable grounds.

Councillor Smith said residents would support a further extension of these powers.

He said: “As a local councillor, I am shocked and appalled at what has happened and I believe this represents the feelings of the wider Walsall community.

“I am sure that 99.9 per cent of the community supports the extension of section 60 powers for as long as necessary to prevent further violent disorder and worse.

“It is horrific and appalling that such an attack can take place on a busy main street in broad daylight.

“Local residents are understandably fearful of what else might happen following this tragedy.

“Our thoughts and condolences go out to the victim’s family and friends at this sad time.”
