This makes the West Midlands the third-highest in the UK for drink-driving arrests since 2021, behind London (12,688) and Northern Ireland (9,413).
Nationally, the UK has also seen drink-driving deaths have rise to 300 a year, a 13-year high, the Department for Transport has revealed.
Data from law firm Legal Expert, obtained through Freedom of Information requests, shows that from December 2021 to November 2024, West Midlands Police made 7,270 drink-driving arrests. However, only 59 per cent of these led to a charge or summons.
The Association of Police and Crime Commissioners (APCC) has now joined calls for a lower blood alcohol limit for drivers.
