Vehicle seizures, arrests, and drugs recovered in crackdown on crime in Birmingham

Neighbourhood policing teams in Birmingham have had a busy week of vehicle seizures and drug recoveries in the latest operation to crackdown on vehicle crime.

A number of vehicles have been seized for being untaxed, uninsured or even stolen.

Some police even had drugs recovered while out under the operation.

The full list of police activity in the crackdown included: 

  • Stetchford & North Yardley: Untaxed vehicle seized. Stolen vehicle recovered near Stechford Retail Park.

  • Sparkbrook: One untaxed vehicle and one uninsured vehicle seized. 

  • Springfield & Sparkhill: Concerns about dangerous parking addressed

  • Bordesley Green: Speedwatches conducted in several locations

  • Aston: Stolen vehicle recovered following burglary

  • Washwood Heath: Abandoned vehicle blocking the pavement seized

  • Kingstanding: Suspected stolen vehicle recovered for forensic examination

  • Erdington: Knife and drugs recovered from suspect on a bicycle

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: "Our dedicated Birmingham Neighbourhood Policing Teams play a vital role in keeping the city safe, and have been busy this week dealing with a variety of community concerns. Our team are working hard to tackle vehicle crime."

It comes as the Erdington Neighbourhood Team work to support Operation Fearless. Officers under this operation caught a suspected shop thief on the high street, as well a man who was wanted for burglary.

Weoley Police have also been busy tackling theft from shops. Three suspected thieves were arrested and charged, one with 12 offences.

In Sheldon, an early morning warrant saw a large quantity of cannabis seized and one man was taken into custody.
