Father-of two Matthew Adams, aged 33, died on March 23, 2023 four days following the incident at the Gough Arms, in Jowetts Lane, in Hill Top.

West Midlands Police launched a murder investigation in the aftermath and now three men, a woman and a youth are due to appear at Birmingham Crown Court in connection with the death.

Mark Shorthouse, aged 53; Ryan Stanley, aged 30; John Wise, aged 42 and a 16-year-old boy, all from West Bromwich, have been charged with murder and violent disorder.

Nichola Stanley, aged 39, also from West Bromwich has been charged with violent disorder.

They are all due to appear before a judge on Monday.

Known by the nickname 'Wacka', Mr Adams went home to recover following the alleged assault in the early hours of March 19, but on March 23 an ambulance was called to his home address in Walsall.

He was taken to hospital, but died on the same day.

His family said: “Matt, known to many as Wacka. The most loved and adored son, brother, uncle, partner and devoted dad to his two beautiful children.

“A loyal friend to many who Matt treated like family.

“Matt left a lasting impression with everyone he met with his funny, loving and carefree ways. He had the most infectious laugh and smile.

“Matt was a larger than life, selfless person, happy to help those in need with his generosity and kindness.

“We are all really struggling to cope with the loss of Matt, the life and soul of our family.

“Our world is shattered and hearts broken.

“We will love and miss Matt always and forever.”
