Specially-trained negotiators were deployed to the scene after the suspect apparently barricaded himself inside.

Fire crews also attended after smoke was seen coming from the building. Because of the nature of the incident, paramedics were obviously on site too.

Shortly, after 9.30am on Monday morning, officers arrested a 41-year-old man, from Tamworth, on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.

Fortunately, no one was injured and the occupiers of the home continue to be supported by officers.

Investigators stayed at the scene throughout the day to speak to witnesses, review footage of the area and carry out enquiries to find out more about what happened. They also sought to reassure the local community.

Police remained at the scene on Monday afternoon.

A Staffordshire Police statement added: "We would like to thank those who were in the area at the time for their patience and understanding following a period of disruption.

"If you have any information which could help us with our investigation, get in touch by calling 101, quoting incident 169 of 22 October, or by messaging us using Live Chat on our website.

"To report anonymously, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
