A persistent thief who targeted a city shop and also climbed a fence to get onto a railway line has narrowly avoided going to prison.

Michael Palmer admitted six offences when he appeared at Wolverhampton Magistrates Court on Monday, including four thefts, assault by beating and obstructing a train.
The first theft was on September 6 when he took washing detergent worth £31.50 from a Heron Foods store in Wolverhampton.
