A police officer driving at 120mph was overtaken by Dean Redfearn

Police estimated Dean Redfearn was travelling at more than 150mph when he tore along the M54 at the wheel of a BMW 135i shortly after midnight on October 27 last year, before continuing to speed away from the officers who were responding to an incident in Telford.

A statement from PC Matthew Jones from West Mercia Police said he was driving an unmarked car westwards along the motorway at around 12.15am to a 'grade 1' emergency call, which requires an immediate response.

He told the court: "I could see the headlights of a vehicle in my rear view mirror closing me down at high speed. At this time I was travelling at 120mph in order to get to the incident in Telford as quickly but as safely as I could."

PC Jones said he moved over to the inside lane, believing he would be overtaken. He said that a blue BMW "drove past at speed".
