Experts assess damage at site of Grade II Bilston pub hit by suspected arson attack
Conservationists have paid a visit to an historic Bilston pub after it suffered extensive damage in a suspected arson attack.
The devastating fire tore through the Greyhound and Punchbowl on High Street, Bilston, at around 3.40am on Saturday.
Since then, fire officials and police forensic officers have been on the scene, with the road outside the pub cordoned off.
On Thursday, experts from Historic England and Wolverhampton Council made a visit to the Grade II listed building to assess if it is structurally sound before deciding on the next step.
Landlord George Kang said he is feeling optimistic after the site visit, saying it is just "a matter of time" before the building is refurbished.
The 56-year-old said: "Historic England have come down, it's them who have got to look at what has happened and the damage inside and everything.
"The council have come down, we are going to have to get another structural engineer to come in to check the beams and everything, but, on a positive note, it's not too bad in there.
