Speeding driver Mohammed Zaber, 46, was travelling up to 66mph in a 30mph zone when his black Mercedes struck Ion Baronescu on the A4036 Thorns Road in Quarry Bank, near Dudley, on August 28, 2021.

Mr Baronescu was pronounced dead at the scene.

Wolverhampton Crown Court heard that the victim was with two friends but as all three were Romanian nationals - and used to cars driving on the right-hand side of the road - they looked in the wrong direction before crossing the dual carriageway when the incident happened at 4.16pm.

But jailing Zaber, Judge John Butterfield KC said: "The collision occurred because you were simply going too fast. The collision investigation report said there was no evidence of emergency braking.

"You were driving in a built-up area where you should have known pedestrians could be expected to be crossing the road."
