Banned driver, 20, jailed for causing death of unborn baby in Stourbridge crash
A banned driver at the wheel of car that struck a pregnant mother in Stourbridge, causing her to lose her baby has been jailed.
University student Aqeel Ahmed was speeding in his family's newly purchased black BMW in Junction Road, Stourbridge, at about 3.25pm on June 27 last year when he lost control of it.
Prosecuting barrister Olivia Whitworth told the hearing that Kaitlyn Bustin and her brother Alfie, 17, were out walking their dog when they heard the sound of a speeding vehicle coming towards them from the direction of the railway viaduct.
The car clipped the kerb before mounting the pavement, hitting a lamppost and Miss Bustin, 19, who was six months pregnant with a baby girl, whom she named 'Ayda-Rose'. The court heard that due to the crash, the baby was stillborn.
Miss Bustin, a care worker, was unresponsive at the roadside while Ahmed, now 20, briefly inquired how she was before fleeing the scene on foot.
