Adam Razaaq, from Long Lane, Halesowen and four others are on trial accused of the murder of Haji Choudhary Rab Nawaz, 52, and the attempted murder of his brother in Coventry on October 2 last year.

Razaaq, 23, told the jury at Warwick Crown Court he "could never stab anybody".

After being shown CCTV footage of him holding a knife arguing outside Al-Madinah Jamiah Masjid and Institute, Razaaq told his barrister Paul Lewis KC he was in fear of his life after nearly being run over.

He said: "A car tried to run me over, I wanted to confront the driver. A man came at me with a knife but I managed to get out of the way. I grabbed his arm and took his knife off him.

"The adrenaline kicked in and I made a split-second decision to follow the car, I wanted to confront the driver.
