Armed police called to Pensnett street as man 'threatens neighbours and officers'
Armed police have surrounded a house after reports of a man threatening his neighbours.
Police were called to Hodnet Drive, Pensnett, just before 11pm on Friday as they responded to the reports of a man being "abusive" to his neighbours.
However, the situation escalated when officers arrived and were threatened by the suspect.
The suspect remained in the property more than 12 hours after officers were first called with the street cordoned off.
A spokeswoman for West Midlands Police said: "We were called to Hodnet Drive in Pensnett just before 11pm yesterday (Friday) following reports that a man had been threatening and abusive to neighbours.
"Officers arrived and were threatened by the suspect.
"Firearms officers and negotiators are at the scene, and the man, who is alone, remains in the property this afternoon.
"A small number of residents have been moved to safety. There is no wider threat to the public."
Residents in an around Hodnet Drive were woken in the early hours when officers descended.
Photos shared on social media showed armed officers in the road, as well as police vehicles and tape blocking off Hodnet Drive.
Some said they had been woken by the commotion, with some saying they saw police at 1.30am and 3am.
