John Field, who was banned from driving at the time, drove his Porsche Cayenne at nearly three times the speed limit and on the wrong side of the road before fleeing on foot and eventually being caught.

The 30-year-old failed to stop for officers from West Midlands Police when they spotted him on Blackacre Road, Dudley on the evening of April 7 last year.

Field hit around 112mph on a 40mph stretch of Duncan Edwards Way and went through red lights at 60mph.

The Porsche’s tyres were stung, but he managed to carry on and eventually hit 45mph on the wrong side of the Thorns Road dual carriageway.

He eventually gave up and abandoned the Porsche on Amblecote Road, where he was arrested after a brief struggle.

Field, of Summerfield Road, Dudley, admitted dangerous driving and disqualified driving following the three-mile pursuit.

He was jailed for 16 months at Wolverhampton Crown Court but has now been released after serving his sentence on remand.

He had numerous previous convictions for dangerous driving, a driving disqualification and a conviction for failing to stop for police.

Pc Dan Lynas, from the West Midlands Police Traffic department, was one of the officers who pursued Field.

He said: "This was really dangerous driving through main roads, at really high speeds.

"This happened early in the first lockdown, and a time when most people were staying at home to save lives, Field was going out and risking others."
