Arrest made in connection with car crash that left two children seriously hurt

A driver has been arrested following a car crash in Wolverhampton that left two children seriously hurt.

Six people were injured in the two-car collision happened which happened on Lichfield Road close to the junction with Lewis Grove, just before 10pm on Wednesday.

A 14-year-old and a nine-year-old were both taken to Birmingham Children’s Hospital with a leg and head injury respectively, while two other people in the same car received minor injuries.

West Midlands Police has said the driver of one of the vehicles involved - a Renault Clio - has been been arrested after providing a positive breath test.

They have also been taken to hospital with a knee injury.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “On arrival, ambulance staff found two cars that had suffered significant damage.

“There were four people in the first car, two adults and two children.

"A teenage boy had suffered the most significant injuries. He was treated at the scene before being taken on blue lights to Birmingham Children’s Hospital with the doctor travelling with the crew.

“A younger boy also suffered potentially serious injuries and was taken to the same hospital with the critical care paramedic travelling with the second ambulance."

Two women in the second car sustained less serious injuries before being taken to New Cross Hospital for further assessment and treatment.
