Denis Dunkley, 48, had pleaded guilty to a charge of of rape at an earlier hearing on March 16.

At Wolverhampton Crown Court last Thursday, prosecutor Richard McConaghy told the court that the offence had taken place in September last year.

Defending, Timothy Banks, said: “He is ashamed of his actions. I would never say this unless it was a given to say so on his behalf, he is genuinely remorseful and thoroughly ashamed of his actions.”

Judge Jonathan Salmon sentenced Dunkley, of no fixed abode, to eight years in prison. He was also ordered to sign the sex offenders register for life.

He will serve at least two thirds of his sentence before he is eligible for release.

Judge Salmon said: “I accept you have demonstrated an element of remorse and you are ashamed of what has happened.

“You will serve two thirds of the sentence in custody then you will eligible for release on licence.

“If you were to breach the terms of your licence, or commit further offences, you may be returned to custody.”
