Great Barr stabbing victim named as 19-year-old Jack Barry

A teenager who died after being stabbed in Great Barr has been named as Jack Barry.

The 19-year-old was discovered seriously injured in West Road at around 9.45pm on Sunday and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post-mortem which took place on Tuesday revealed he died as a result of a stab wound.

In a short statement, Jack's grieving family said: "Jack was a much loved son and grandson."

It comes as floral tributes were left at the scene, which one saying: "I can't believe this is actually happening after we was only together days ago.

"You was a good lad and been taken way too early. You will never be forgotten bro. I hope you're in peace."

Another added: "You never got the chance to live. Such a sad and wicked world we live in.

"Fly high young man."

An 18-year-old man was detained on suspicion of murder, but was taken to hospital with an injury. Police have confirmed he remained in hospital on Wednesday and will be questioned when medically fit.

Detective Inspector Hannah Whitehouse, from West Midlands Police's homicide team, said: "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Jack at this deeply distressing time.

"We’re grateful for the support we have received so far as we seek to establish the full circumstances of what happened on Sunday evening.

"But we still believe there are people out there who have information which can assist our investigation and I would urge them to contact us."
