Leigh Robinson and Sabeel Nazir were both convicted of death by dangerous driving for their involvement in the high-speed crash on Eachelhurst Road, Sutton Coldfield, in the early hours of December 8, 2018.

Robinson's passenger Anthony Moran, 43, died as the Renault Megane they were in was being followed at speeds of up to 80mph by Nazir in a black Audi.

A third car involved was hit by Robinson as it turned across the dual carriageway.

At a hearing in November last year, both men admitted the charge and Robinson, 34, of no fixed address was sentenced to three years and two months – while Nazir, 34, of Blakesley Road, in South Yardley, Birmingham, was jailed for two years and five months.

But Nazir, a bank manager, appealed for his sentence to be reduced as he believed that Robinson's jail term should have been far more severe than his own.

The Solicitor General’s office also appealed both sentences stating that both were unduly lenient.

The Court of Appeal refused Nazir’s application but the Solicitor General’s request to appeal was allowed and during the hearing on Wednesday, March 3, the appeal judges agreed that the starting point for Robinson's sentence was unduly lenient.

They ruled that Robinson's sentence be increased to four years. His driving ban on release will remain as three years.

The judges however did not feel that Nasir’s sentence was unduly lenient and have made no changes to his sentence of two years and five months. He also remains disqualified from driving for three years.
