Summer Peace allegedly died at the hands of her father Phillip, from Dudley, who is standing trial accused of her murder.

Dr Alexander Kolar concluded that Summer died from injuries to her head following an autopsy examination, Birmingham Crown Court heard.

He said: "The cause of death I provided was the child died as a result of a head injury."

Jurors had heard earlier in the trial that Summer had two layers of bleeding on her brain.

Dr Kolar was asked whether these features "contributed to the head injury", to which he replied it was a "close combination".

Summer died on September 9, 2017, around 25 hours after she suffered a collapse.

Dr Kolar said he could not provide an explanation for how Summer collapsed from a pathological point of view.

He said: "I cannot tell you what the cause of her collapse was."

All of the witness have now been called in the trial and the prosecution is due to finish their case on Monday morning.

Peace, of Himley Road in Dudley, denies the murder and manslaughter of Summer.

Prosecutors allege she suffered the fatal injuries to her brain after she was intentionally shaken by Peace.

Medical reports revealed that Summer also suffered 11 rib fractures.

The trial has heard that Summer became limp on September 8 and her father had administered mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.

She was rushed to hospital that day after she became unresponsive and struggled to breathe.

The trial continues.
