Teenager dies after Christmas Eve crash in Wolverhampton

A teenage girl involved in the Christmas Eve horror crash in Wolverhampton has died, police have now confirmed.

The 17-year-old was a passenger in a black VW Golf which crashed with a BMW at the junction of Sandy Lane, Lower Street, Codsall Road and Lothians Road in Claregate just before 2.30am.

The teenager was taken to hospital but died later on Christmas Eve, West Midlands Police said.

The driver of the vehicle, an 18-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and has been released under investigation as inquiries continue.

Meanwhile tributes have been left to "Simi" at the scene, around 200 metres away from the Claregate pub.

Sgt Dean Caswell, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Our thoughts remain with the family who are being supported by specialist officers at this difficult time.

“I would urge anyone with information to get in touch quoting log 309 24/12 with anything that might help our investigation.”
