Jailed: Wrong side of road driver, 23, killed pedestrian and injured another
A Wolverhampton driver who killed a pedestrian and left another with life-changing injuries while driving on the wrong side of the road has been jailed.
Daniel Richard Bracher, 23, struck both pedestrians as he drove down Parkfield Road in the city in a red Peugeot 201, while they used a crossing point.
A male and a female pedestrian were thrown into the air and down the carriageway.
Damien Hubbard, 43, suffered fatal injuries and was declared dead at the scene.
The female pedestrian received life changing injuries including a shattered pelvis, broken leg and spinal injuries.
Bracher, of Wolverhampton, pleaded guilty to one count of causing death by dangerous driving and one count of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
He had been driving at speeds of 40mph and overtaking slow-moving cars.
Bracher was sentenced at the city's crown court on December 17 to six years and nine months imprisonment.
He was also disqualified from driving for seven years and four-and-a-half months, with an extended re-test.
Lynne Warrington, a senior Crown prosecutor based in the West Midlands, said: "Daniel Bracher made a deliberate decision to exceed the speed limit and travel on the wrong side of the road, with a complete disregard for the rules of the road and the danger being caused to others.
"He will now face the consequences of his actions."
