Machete and hammer seized as group of teenagers clash at Walsall shopping centre

Police have arrested two teenagers after disorder at a Walsall shopping centre involving a group of young people with weapons.

West Midlands Police say the disorder unfolded with around 15 young people at the Saddlers Shopping Centre at around 2.30pm on Wednesday.

Two 17-year-olds were arrested after a foot chase, and a hammer and a machete were recovered.

A spokesman from West Midlands Police said: "We are investigating reports of a disorder at the Saddlers shopping centre in Walsall, at 2.30pm on Wednesday involving a group of about 15 young people with weapons.

"It is understood the group dispersed and no injuries were reported to us.

"During enquiries officers stopped a bus in the Delves Green Road area and following a short foot chase two teenagers were arrested.

"We also carried out a search of the area and officers recovered a hammer and a machete.

"The two 17-year-olds, arrested on suspicion of possession of a weapon, remain in police custody for questioning as our investigations continue. One was also arrested on suspicion of possession of cannabis."
