It comes after an officer and a teenager were hit with fireworks in the town centre.

Nicola Richards, MP for West Bromwich East, published an open letter to David Jamieson on her Facebook page on Thursday afternoon, which set out her position that more police officers are needed on the streets of West Bromwich.

She said: “I was elected, in part, because the public told us that they wanted to see more bobbies on the beat. And I stood on our manifesto commitment to hire 20,000 more police officers in the course of the Parliament. So, I was happy to learn today that, in the West Midlands alone, 292 new officers had been hired in the last year.

“So today, I have urgently requested that the Police and Crime Commissioner does more to divert more police resource into West Bromwich town centre to help bolster the response. This is especially important when we consider the backdrop of the incidents that we’ve seen over the last few weeks.”
