Village sees spate of anti-social-behaviour
A Black Country village is seeing a spate of anti-social-behaviour with fireworks thrown at buses and apples hurled at pedestrians.
The incidents are taking place in Sedgley, in the Dudley borough, which had its police station closed in summer 2019.
An allotment was also set fire to two weeks ago in a suspected arson attack.
The incidents have caused alarm for residents.
Dudley North MP Marco Longhi has condemned the shocking behaviour and contacted police over the matters.
On Saturday night, youths threw fireworks were thrown at one bus in the town. Smoke reportedly filled the vehicle which shook up passengers but there was no injuries or damage to the vehicle.
A spokesman for National Express, the bus operator, said: "National Express West Midlands reported to West Midlands Police an incidence of youths throwing fireworks in Sedgley at lunchtime on Saturday. The bus wasn't damaged and nobody was hurt."
Warning people about the incident on Facebook, Sam Russell said: "There's a group of lads going round Sedgley throwing fireworks.
"They’ve just thrown one at a bus in the middle of Sedgley. Thankfully, no one was hurt. I went on the smoke-filled bus to see if driver and passengers were okay. An old lady and a child on the bus were shook up but okay. Be careful and be warned, they could throw them in shops."
Yobs also allegedly threw fireworks at cars in High Street, Sedgley, on Monday afternoon.
Beccy Shaw said on Facebook: "There’s a pair of idiots setting fireworks off at cars in Sedgley High Street. Be careful."
West Midlands Police was contacted about both incidents.
About two weeks ago, allotments located on Gorge Road caught fire in what is believed to have been an arson attack. West Midlands Fire Service was approached for comment.
Richard Corser, 65, from Sedgley, who is an allotment holder, said: "The fire brigade said they were going to file an arson report."
Apples have also reportedly been thrown at cars, buses and pedestrians near The Crown pub, on High Street, Sedgley, over the last two weeks.
Mr Corser said there was an apple tree near the pub which has giving yobs "ammo" to hurl at the cars. He added: "A lot of anti-social-behaviour has been going on."
Roy Timms, 61, licensee of the Crown pub, said bricks have also been thrown at cars. He added: "They caused criminal damage to the signage of the pub.
"Then they moved up the road where I believe they threw bricks at buses and cars passing by. They threatened an old woman who was videoing them."
West Midlands Police was contacted for comment about this matter too.
Mr Longhi, the MP whose constituency covers Sedgley, said: "If these are minors, then it will be a case of having words with their parents.
"It is completely unacceptable behaviour. It is putting life and limb in danger. It can cause serious harm and accidents. It is utter madness as to why they are doing it."
