Man charged in connection with disorder near Oldbury pub

A 28-year-old man has been charged after a man was left with serious head injuries following disorder outside a Black Country pub.

Thomas Matthews was arrested on Wednesday in connection with an altercation near the Phoenix pub, in Martley Road, Oldbury, last Saturday.

Matthews, of Bredon Court, in Halesowen, has since been charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent.

He appeared at a virtual court hearing on Thursday and was remanded in custody to appear before Wolverhampton Crown Court on November 26.

A spokesman from West Midlands Police said: "A man in his 40s remains in a serious condition in hospital and we still need to hear from anyone who was in Martley Road, at around 9.10pm on Saturday, and not already spoken to us."
