Lichfield barbers fined £1,000 over Covid rules
The owner of a Lichfield business has been issued with a £1,000 fine after authorities said they were found not to be following the rules that protect their staff and customers from Covid-19.
In a bid to keep everyone safe and stop the spread of the coronavirus, Lichfield District Council has linked up with Lichfield police to visit local businesses, to make sure their premises are Covid-secure.
Where issues are found, businesses are asked to make changes. However, if these changes are not made within a certain time frame, enforcement action may be taken.
Sweeney Todds Gents Barbers, in Tamworth Street, has been issued with a fixed penalty notice of £1,000. The business does have the right to appeal.
Councillor Angela Lax, cabinet member responsible for regulatory services, said: “While we aim to be supportive and help local businesses to thrive, it is imperative they all follow the health and safety guidance to prevent the possibility of a local outbreak.
“Our joint inspections with the police are about trying to support our local businesses by highlighting any issues that could put themselves and their customers at risk.
“We only look to use enforcement measures where businesses have not acted on our instructions. If any local business is in any doubt about what is required of them, our officers are available to help.”
