Arrest after teenager racially abused on bus in West Bromwich

Police have arrested a man after a teenager was racially abused and attacked on a bus in the Black Country.

An argument broke out on the 79 bus in Hill Top, West Bromwich, at around 5.40pm on October 1.

A fellow passenger then racially abused the 16-year-old and attacked her.

A 49-year-old man has since been arrested and released pending further investigation.

West Midlands Police is continuing to appeal for witnesses and officers are examining mobile phone footage of the incident.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "We have arrested a man we wanted to speak to after a teenager was racially abused and attacked on a bus in Hill Top, West Bromwich last week.

"An argument broke out on the 79 bus at around 5.40pm on October 1, before a fellow passenger racially abused the 16-year-old and attacked her.

"We have spoken to the girl, and are examining mobile phone footage which has been shared on social media.

"However, we are still keen to hear from any other witnesses or potential victims that were on the bus.

"The 49-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated assault has been released pending further investigation."
