Arrest after man seen waving axe in Birmingham

A man armed with an axe has been arrested after threatening people with the weapon.

Armed officers chased and then Tasered the man in King Edwards Road, Birmingham, at about 1.35am today.

Cars in the area were also damaged.

Birmingham Police tweeted saying: "We were called to reports of a man threatening people with an axe in the Jewellery Quarter area of Birmingham in the early hours of this morning.

"Following searches and a foot chase just after 1.35am, armed officers Tasered a man on King Edwards Road and arrested him.

"We received several calls from members of the public who were concerned about this man’s behaviour after he was seen waving an axe around.

"It’s believed he was also involved in damaging cars in the area before the axe was recovered. The 44-year-old remains in police custody."
