50,000 fake cigarettes seized by Trading Standards in Walsall
Almost 50,000 fake cigarettes were seized by Trading Standards in Walsall.
Police dogs helped to sniff out the haul, along with about 11kg of tobacco.
A "large amount" of cash was also seized during the operation. Walsall Trading Standards posted on Facebook saying: "48,300 dodgy cigarettes and 11.65 kg tobacco taken off the streets last week by Walsall Trading Standards.
"One arrested for possessing firearm and a large amount of cash recovered by Bloxwich Police during the same operation. Great partnership working, assisted by Yoyo and Scamp from BWY Canine.
"The cash you hand over for those cheap cigs goes into the pockets of organised criminal gangs and funds other criminality such as people smuggling, drugs and prostitution. Help stop this trade by reporting illegal tobacco anonymously on 0808 223 1144."
